Amazon.com Product Description Take Minolta's Vectis Weathermatic Zoom snorkeling, skin diving, boating, or to the pool. This camera is completely watertight and durable. Shock-resistant materials and a double-thick outer shell, front cover, and rear cover make it ideal for outdoor use. It is also bright yellow, making it easy to spot and retrieve if it falls overboard. The above- and underwater auto focusing system features passive phase detection which determines its focus based on subject contrast. Since there are no infrared beams to get lost in the water, this type of auto focusing system can focus accurately underwater. The Vectis Weathermatic also offers 26mm long eye relief that allows the user to view the whole image an inch away from the viewfinder eyepiece. This is especially useful if you are wearing goggles or eyeglasses. The Vectis Weathermatic features all you've come to expect from an Advanced Photo System camera: drop-in film loading, three print options, and date/time imprinting. It also detects whether an exposed film cassette has been inserted into the camera, preventing double exposure. The built-in flash features full auto, manual fill, cancel, and night portrait modes, plus a selectable red-eye reduction lamp.
Product Description The VECTIS WEATHERMATIC incorporates powerful features to support outdoor activities. This new model has a 1.7X zoom with a 30-50mm focal length range (approx. 38-63 mm in the 35mm format) that can be used even underwater. The camera also offers underwater autofocus. Whether shooting on land or underwater, the images captured by the VECTIS WEATHERMATIC are sharp and beautiful. In addition, the VECTIS WEATHERMATIC is submersible to 10m deep and can be used carefree for snorkeling and other marine sports. Moreover, the shock-resistant performance of the VECTIS WEATHERMATIC is higher than conventional cameras for worry-free use during skiing, trekking, and other outdoor activities. Thanks to the Advanced Photo System, the print size can be selected from three options. In addition, the Drop-in Loading feature offers simplified film loading. Finally, the camera provides a positive grip to secure good focus on unstable footholds.

Excellent camera June 19, 2000 T. Harkins 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
I bought this camera while on a trip to St. Maarten. I have since used it while skiing, kayaking, hiking, swimming, etc. and have found it to take great pictures. Due to its construction and watertight casing, I don't have to worry about it being broken when getting wet or banged against something. The APS 3 picture size feature is great. Also, the accessories available make it much easier to carry and keep accessible.I would highly recommend this camera for anyone who is active, or just like to take great pictures easily.
great camera for parents October 26, 2001 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this Minolta Weathermatic Vectis to replace the 20 yr old Weathermatic 110 style I had used for so long after realizing this APS would withstand the beach visits with a toddler and develop wonderful beach /play photos as well as the dipping into the ocean capturing photos of the child.I have no complaints, having used the camera for 2 yrs now and highly recommend it. I am considering buying the Vectis deluxe for 249. as it goes into a pocket easier in winter/fall. I have used the Weathermatic to take great snow shots too and as it is a point and shoot with a timer you can get anyone to take a group photo or set the timer. Get serious we are real families taking real photos. Buy this you will not regret it, loading the film is easy too.
Rugged and dependable May 17, 2001 Kenny Girot (Destin FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this camera in 1991 and on my first scuba/sailing trip, it fell down a flight of wooden stairs. It wasn't bothered at all. My camera has taken some serious abuse in ten years and has always performed well. It recently quit working and Minolta's website gave good instructions on their repair service. Within two weeks of shipping it, I got an estimate to repair to factory specs ...(very reasonably). My favorite part of this camera is that it can withstand sand, saltwater and rough handling. Great for an active lifestyle. Excellent product and great support.
SWIM WITH DA FISHES February 10, 2002 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
In a diving trip to the British West Indies, I found this camera to be just spectacular for shallow dives with good light, a requirement for any good under the waves shot. We took excellant snorkeling and down to 20 foot shots, and in close with the flash, got a 5 foot Barracuda napping! Shoots very clear above the waves, for a dual purpose camera. Very pleased, and it is an excellant styled and wellmade unit.
An All-Weather Camera August 16, 2001 Donna Gramkowski (Westmont, NJ USA) This camera has gone to England, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Hawai'i, and just around town. The above-water pictures are professional quality. Because of the sport housing, the camera will hold up to most bumps and bruises. It's great for underwater since you can go back and forth between underwater and above using the same camera. While snorkeling on Maui, I was able to look back and take photos of the mountains overlooking the water. Its ease of use makes it perfect for the novice as well as the experienced.
